3. Mr. Eastham knows full well the reasons for the increases in our taxes. Many of the items that are costing our county more money are mandated by law or had to be appropriated because of past neglect, for example, building the new facilities at the jail, renovation of the Courthouse, the animal shelter, insurance coverage for employees, not to speak of the real need to upgrade our educational system.
The supervisors worked very hard to save every penny possible. The county is debt free. Whatever shortcomings we have in the county management, these men are frugal and make a very honest effort. I would rather have a tax and spend philosophy, at least you pay for things you want. I know of one party which in the last six years has “borrowed and spent,” more than doubling our national debt, namely two trillion dollars. I am afraid our children will remember that fact.
