The snack bar at the Sperryville Indoor Antique Market is doing a booming business this year. The credit goes to well-known local cook Mazie Clark, who brought her culinary talents to the market for the summer.
. Last summer, Mrs. Clark managed the snack bar for the Little Italian Bakery in Culpeper. This year, several friends encouraged her to try running the operation on her own.
Mrs. Clark, who says modestly, “It’s.working out pretty good," has a marvelous selection of homemade sandwiches, subs and desserts for hungry shoppers on weekends.
Last Friday afternoon she wras busy preparing the filling for her homemade strawberry pies, which were a big hit at the snack bar on Saturday and Sunday. “Most everybody tells me how good it is,” she said, smiling.
Mrs. Clark is a home-tSught cook. She explained that “I’ve been cooking all my life. . . Momma ran everyone else out of the kitchen. I was the only one left.”
Apparently “Momma” made a wise choice, because Mrs. Clark’s brothers and sisters say her food “tastes just like Momma’s.”
