A tick must remain attached for several hours before infection occurs. If you find a tick, pull it gently from the skin with tweezers, taking care to remove the head as well as the body. Applying a little alcohol may prevent infection. Signs of Rocky Mountain spotted fever are chills, headache, muscle pains, rash and fever. Take children with these symptoms to a doctor immediately.
