Fauquier airport
to be sold
The limited partnership that owns Warrenton-Fauquier Airport near Midland has agreed to sell its interest in the 136-acre facility to a new group of investors for $1.4 million.
If the sale goes through, Aerodyne Engineering Systems Ltd., a Washington, D.C.,-based defense contracting company, will hold a controlling interest in CASE Limited Partnership.
Aerodyne contracted to buy a controlling interest in the partnership in March. The deal could become final in late December.
While the name of the partnership won’t change, the new owners clearly have far more amibitious plans for the 19-year-old airfield than its current owners.
“There’s a lot of work that needs to be done,” Aerodyne President James J. Solano said in a recent telephone interview from his Washington office. “The runways are in terrible shape and more hangar space is needed.”
Mr. Solano, whose company produces fully remote-controlled helicopters, said he is planning for immediate construction of additional office and hangar space.
He said the company soon will move its Texas office to the airport on Route 610.
Remington boy
drowns in lake
A 17-year-old Remington boy drowned Thursday in a private lake on Route 651.
He was the second person to drown in Fauquier County this year.
Robert Martin went under about 8:45 p.m. Thursday, but rescue workers didn’t find his body until 9:50 a.m. Friday, according to Fauquier Sheriff Ashby W. Olinger. Martin and a friend were swimming in a lake on Donald Mitchell’s farm north of Remington, he said. The boys didn’t have permission to
