For want of a key the meeting was not lost.
The Washington Town Council took George Herbert’s advice to heart last Wednesday evening.
In an abbreviated session on the courthouse lawn, Treasurer Brad Fisher presented the three council members in attendance with the proposed budget for fiscal 1987.
Mr. Fisher presented the council with a perfectly balanced spending plan of $13,310. The main source of income for the town is the bank franchise tax, which contributes $8,500 to the total. Building permits will account for $300, while pole and use taxes on the utilities serving the town will contribute $700.
Revenues from state sources will add $2,600, broken down as follows: ABC profits, $1,000; state sales tax, $1,600; rolling stock tax (road use tax on trucks using the town’s part of Route 211), $10.
Federal revenue-sharing will account for another $1,000. Mr. Fisher added, however, that portion of the town’s income is in question due to the constraints placed on the federal budget by the'Gramm-Rudman deficit reduction legislation.
