The Horseflies are a fusion band at its best, playing soulful traditional music with the spirit and energy reminiscent of an earlier Ithaca phenomena, the Highwoods Band. While rooted in the traditional fiddle music and songs of the rural American South, the Horseflies reflect the influence of other more modern musicians such as Jimmy Cliff and Bob Marley.
The musicians are Judy Hyman on fiddle, Rich Steams on banjo, Jeff Claus on guitar and John Hayward on bass. They do some wonderful ^ singing of traditional and original material. Their music is incredible, says Peter Dunning, executive director of the Bluemont Concert Series.
This performance is part of a series of ten Saturday evening concerts at the Warren Green this summer presented as a community partnership by the Bluemont Concert Series in cooperation with the Fauquier County Parks and Recreation Department, the Town of Warrenton, and the Virginia Commission for the Arts.
In the event of bad weather, the concert will be held indoors at the Warrenton Junior High School. Concerts are held outside whenever possible; decision to move inside is made at 5 on the day of the concert, and information will be broadcast over local radio stations.
