Three scholarships of $650 each were awarded by the Washington Baptist Church, it was announced recently.
Molly McCoy, a senior at Shenandoah College majoring in education, was one of the recipients. Miss McCoy is the daughter of Mrs. Kent Reeve of Washington, Va.
The second award went to Shelley Currence of Flint Hill. A 1986 graduate of Rappahannock County High School, she plans to attend Lord Fairfax Community College and major in business. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Currence.
Tara Fisher is the third scholarship recipient. Miss Fisher also was graduated this year from RCHS, where she was honored as the salutatorian of the Class of 1986. She plans to attend the University of Richmond and major in physical therapy. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Brad Fisher of Washington.
The scholarship fund was established two years ago by an anonymous donor. It is open to any member of the church congregation, a graduate of high school, a person currently in college, or an adult who wishes to return to school. The funds may be applied toward tuition at either a college or a technical school.
The scholarship committee added that it hopes that the success of the program at Washington Baptist Church may encourage other members of the community or other congregations to consider beginning similar programs.
