Representatives from Madison, Orange, Rappahannock and Culpeper county businesses met recently at Mayhurst Bed and Breakfast in Orange to form the Foothills Association, an informal group studying ways to promote the recreational and vacation advantages of the five counties in the planning district.
The Orange meeting was called to follow up an earlier meeting arranged by the Virginia Division of Tourism and the RappahannockRapidan Planning District. At the earlier meeting, Pat McMahon of the state agency told representatives that his staff wanted to support efforts to attract visitors to the northern Piedmont area if counties with similar characteristics would organize into larger groups, by planning districts.
