The inaugural Governor’s Cup Chesapeake Bay Fishing Tournament, a major sports fishing event organized by a group of concerned Virginians, will be held August 1516.
As the name implies, the Governor’s Cup has the support of Virginia’s Governor Gerald L. Baliles, who plans to participate in the event and has expressed the desire to present the awards to the winners of the tournament.
The Governor’s Cup will be the first major, multi-ported tournament in the Commonwealth of Virginia and one of only a handful on the East Coast. The ports of Reedville at the mouth of the Potomac River, Deltaville near the mouth of the Rappahannock River, Lynnhaven Inlet in Virginia Beach, and Cape Charles on the Eastern Shore will host the first Governor’s Cup Chesapeake Bay Fishing Tournament this summer.
