Incumbent School Board members and candidates John Tole from Stonewall-Hawthom District, Bryant Lee from Hampton District, and Paul Nichols of Wakefield District talked about revising the home economics Curriculum. Mr. Nichols also said students need information on protecting themselves from sales pitches. Jackson District candidate Ron Makela said students need more information on finances, handling credit cards and debt generally. He said money problems often lead to family breakups, and a young person fresh out of high school can quickly get up to $20,000 in debt. The other candidate from Jackson District, Rich Wood said students need to be better prepared for the world of work.
On a question of what to add to or take out of the budget next year, Mr. Wood suggested more funds for sports, seat belts on school buses, adding classrooms at the high school, and airconditioning for the auditorium and cafeteria. Mr. Von Fange said more money should be included for teachers to attend conferences and the budget should include* funds to improve the Earth Science lab.
Mrs. Whetzel suggested looking at the supplemental duty schedule, the volunteer coordinator and the learning enviroment coordinator for places to cut. Mr. Wingfield said gallons of gasoline are wasted when buses arrive at school early and run their engines while waiting for the school to be open so students can go in. He also
