More is standard on ’96 Neons
Introduced in late ’94, the ’96 Dodge/Plymouth Neon has several formerly optional features as standard equipment this year, including power steering, a front roll bar and 14-inch tires.
The more powerful dual overhead cam engine, formerly available only on the two-door model, can now be ordered for the four door. All ’96 Neons get a larger gas tank this year.
Later this winter, Chrysler Corp. will introduce the ’96 Plymouth Breeze, a lower-cost version of the Cirrus/Stratus four-door sedan. At that price level, it could be America’s lowest-priced midsize car.
Jeep And Eagle
As part of the Chrysler Corporation’s updating, 1996 will be the last year for the Jeep Cherokee, the first five-door sport utility vehicle, introduced ‘way back in 1984. It will be replaced by a new model in 1997.
The ’96 Grand Cherokee, so popular in ’95 that the factory runs three full shifts, gets a facelift (the grille is larger to improve air flow to the engine) and an all-new interior has been designed with dual air bags.
The body has been stiffened to reduce vibrations, and the 4.0 L inline 6-cylinder has been reworked to reduce NVH (noise, vibration and harshness).
