certain that with the help available through federal grants almost all training can be done without added expense to the taxpayers. We must continue to improve if we are to combat the rising crime rate. INCREASED DRUG AWARENESS: In order to reduce the amount of drug usage and related activities, I resolve to emphasize education in promoting a drug-free environment. I will strongly support programs such as D.A.R.E., which currently suffers from lack of support, and education through our civic organizations. Through these efforts we can send a strong message that drugs will not be tolerated in Rappahannock County. ACCOUNTABILITY: As Sheriff, I will supervise and examine investigations conducted by deputies. I will provide guidance when necessary and will insure that policies and regulations are such that individuals in the department are held accountable for their actions. The Sheriff’s Office will be professional and efficient. Accountability and proper jail administration will also enhance jail security, thus eliminating escapes. As Sheriff, I realize that accountability extends to the budget, I will scrutinize the annual budget and cut costs where possible.
