Mrs. Babcock said, “624 is the access. I don’t intend to burden the Jenkins family. 1 had no idea Mr. Jenkins would be upset, and 1 feel very badly about that.”
Barbara Jenkins said, “We don’t want it diverted onto our road because we are the ones who keep that road up.”
Several members of the Planning Commission asked if the overnight camping was necessary. Ms. Maier said she wanted to make the most use of the four days people would be here for the class, and that would require using the evening hours. She said teaching low impact camping was part of the course.
Wakefield District representative Werner Krebser said the application was for a school and overnight stays are not normally part of schools. He said he felt the application should have been for tent camping.
Eventually the permit was approved five to one with. Dr. Krebser voting “no.” A condition of the permit is that for the course no use would be made of the right-of-way off the Fodderstack Road.
The planners also approved a special use permit for David and Joan Harrington to operate a four-room bed and breakfast in their house off the Sperryville Pike across from Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church.
