COMMUNITY POLICING; As Sheriff, I will promote teamwork between the community and local, sate and federal agencies, volunteer organizations, and members of the Sheriff’s department. My training in community policing leads me to believe that the following results can be obtained:
• a direct line of communication between
the citizens and the Sheriff’s office
• a better working relationship with other
agencies
• the availability of resources from other
agencies
• the use of directed patrol in villages and
other specific areas within the county
• greater involvement and communication
with the youth of the county AVAILABILITY: I believe that the Sheriff should be available twenty-four hours a day. The Sheriff can act as a liaison between his deputies and citizens. He can monitor situations and determine if they are being handled properly and in an expeditious and efficient manner. Having been a supervisor with the Virginia State Police, responsible for a three-county area on a twentyfour hour basis, I realize that it is crucial for the Sheriff to be available twenty-four hours a day.
