equivalent of $11 per hour in a regular job, a disgrace. Make sense to you? It doesn’t to Jay Katzen. As Abraham Lincoln said, “You cannot help men permanently by doing for them what they could and should do for themselves.”
Jeff, I hope you see my point. People matter in politics; fortunately, most are decent, reasonable. Ideas matter more, because they can and do differ dramatically — and some are wrong. The five key issues above should show why the parties’ and candidates’ positions make the choice for voters in Virginia easy.
Be alert to what is not said. In an attractive flyer, Katzen’s opponent reviews her personal history, accomplishments, positions on issues. Yet nowhere does the name of the party under whose banner she runs appear! Wonder why? Perhaps Democratic Senator Bill Bradley, announcing his decision to leave the Senate next year, explained: “Democrats distrust the market, preach government as the answer to our problems and prefer the bureaucrat they know to the consumer they can’t control.”
There you have it for 1995, Jeff. In our district, we don’t believe the Democrats’ reign in Richmond should extend four years beyond the current 112!
Decide for yourself, but be sure to vote Nov. 7.
