4. I would support closing them or, as stated at the forum on Oct. 9, 1 would also support fencing the existing sites. A collapsible chain link fence may be useful.
I will not support buying another location or paying for additional staff to man it daily, as this could cost $30,000 or more in annual salaries. If the centrally located site could be paid for by user fees or staffed parttime by volunteers, I could support that.
The citizens of Amissville should not have the liability and reproach of three landfills within a 4-mile radius and then be taxed additionally to make it less of a trip for the western districts to dump their trash.
5. These two documents along with simple economics have worked fairly well to this end but have stifled small business and could do the same for farmers if we do not look at the diversity that we need to survive as a community. The Planning Commission must concentrate on real issues instead of “red herring” issues, such as “ridge top development.” If ridge top stoppers do not like Rappahannock being inhabited on its ridges and hills, maybe the Tidewater area or the Mid-West flat lands are more suitable. (This is possibly too “mean spirited,” but it’s a prime example of county government bureaucrats and elected officials meddling with our livelihoods and creativity.)
