Sue Scheer’s priorities — education and the environment — reflect the will of the people. Testimony to this fact came recently from the Richmond Time-Dispatch, an unlikely source of ammunition for the Democratic candidate who is challenging incumbent Jay Katzen for the right to represent our 31st District in the Virginia House of Delegates.
(Anyone who regularly reads the editorial page of the Times-Dispatch recognizes that the paper is no friend to Democrats or their policies, and so you just know that the good conservatives at the T-D hated this encouraging news like the very devil! But print it they did.)
According to poll results carried on the front page of the Sept. 24 edition, a majority of Virginians share Scheer’s commitment to quality education and environmental protection.
Asked to pick which issue “deserves the most attention and money from state government in the next two years,” an overwhelming 70 percent of-registered voters surveyed statewide echoed Scheer’s priority...Education. Not prisons, which judging from the record, is where Gov. Allen and his supporter, Mr. Katzen, would spend the state’s money.
The poll also shows that Virginian’s are in line with Scheer — and at odds with Katzen — on the question of the environment. Asked to identify the environmental issue that is most important for state government to address, 61 percent chose “strict enforcement of current clean air and water rules.” Another 24 percent picked “limits on real estate development.” Combine the two, and it’s the strongest of mandates for protection and conservation. On the other side, a paltry 15 percent selected “cutting regulation to help business,” the often repeated pledge from Virginia’s Republicans who want to weaken environmental laws.
Education and the environment. If they matter to you as much as they matter to the majority of Virginians, then it’s time to put your ballot where your heart is — elect Sue Scheer to the House of Delegates
