Soon after the first of the year Fred’s Cider, from Mount Vernon Cidery in Sperryviile, will be on the market.
The new product, which is a hard cider, is the brainchild of Cliff Miller, IV. He and his crew of two are leasing the packing house from Skyline Cold Storage owned by the Sharp family, near the Sperryviile Antique Market on Route 1002 in Sperryviile. It is a spacious warehouse space with a room for pressing the apples, another for the five 1,000-gallon fermentation tanks for the hard cider, another for the bottling process, and one with plenty of storage.
Mount Vernon Cidery also makes a sweet cider, bottled in gallons, which has already been on the market for about a month. It is sold at local roadside stands with the Mount Vernon Cidery label.
