Regulations: As American industry and good jobs go overseas, competitors tell us why. A recent article quoted a Dutch official in New York who pushes American investment in Holland: “The Food and Drug Administration is one of our great allies.” Translating, regulatory overload is a major factor in our industrial decline and the move of good jobs overseas.
Regulations are everywhere, spreading like weeds in untended fields. They strangle farmers and business, always increasing costs. Most are imposed without considering costs-benefits. Recently former Gov. Pete du Pont wrote that the ban on asbestos costs $66 million to save one year of life. That money spent for heart transplants would save 18,300 years!
