Another notable design change involves the ’96 Geo Tracker, which will be offered in a five-door version for the first time. This sport utility vehicle will come with dual front air bags, rear high-mounted stoplight and daytime running lights.

From a new model standpoint, the biggest news from FoMoCo is the allnew ’96 Taurus and its near-twin, the '96 Mercury Sable. The sedans are available now; the station wagons will be released to dealers soon.
These totally redesigned cars are longer than the ’95s, but look smaller due to their rounded front and rear design. The body is tighter, and the windshield area has been increased.
The base GL models get a 145-h.p. 3.0 L V-6, derived from last year’s model. LX models come with a new 200 h.p., 3.0 L dual overhead cam engine based on the 2.5 L engine used in the smaller Contour and Mystique, introduced last year.
The interiors of the new Taurus and Sable are comfortable and welldesigned; the oval-shaped radio and temperature control areas are a new departure in styling.
But isn’t that what Taurus/Sable were all about when they were first introduced ten years ago?
Look for a V-8 equipped Taurus SHO in the sprirtg. The new SHO will have a 32-valve, 4-cam 3.4 L engine developing 225-h.p.
