The full-size ’96 Chevrolet C/K 1500/GMC Sierra pickups, Tahoe/Yukon sport utility models, Suburban, and new Express/Savana vans get a new fuel injection system (designated SCP1) and redesigned intake runners and combustion chambers that increase horsepower and fuel efficiency in all engines.
The 4.3 L goes from 160-h.p. to 200 h.p.; the 5.0 L from 175 to 220; the 5.7 L from 200 to 250; and the 7.4 L from 230 to 290.
Interestingly, GM’s full-sized, extended cab pickups will have an optional side “access panel,” too. But it’s on the passenger side.
The Express and Savana vans are all-new for ’96; this marks the first major styling change since 1970. Both vans come in 135-inch and 155-inch wheelbase models, and have redesigned rear doors that open up 165 degrees to allow you to back up to a loading dock.
