With dedication and many, many long hours, Sheriff Woodward has built a department that can be the standard for any Virginia county. He has completely computerized the department’s records and criminal investigation, as well as the jail records. All of the computers are networked so that personnel have instant access to any information on any of the computers, and access to state and national information as well. Sheriff Woodward built this computer system himself by reading, talking to computer experts, and by going to shows and swap meets to see what was the best at the most reasonable price. When Rappahannock County was deciding on what E 911 system to buy, Sheriff Woodward was an integral part of the actual design and development of the current system.
Because of his loyalty to the county and his modesty, very few people know of the hard work and extra miles that Sheriff Woodward goes to getting the job done. He is a computer expert, mechanic, communications technician, custodian, and even seamstress. When the Sheriff's Department buys a new car, it is Sheriff Woodward himself who installs the equipment. He puts the decals on the car, lights, radios, radar, special equipment racks, everything, and gets it ready for police work. This saves the County over $1,000 per car.
