David Smith, Director of Administrative Services for the schools, said that the school filed a no trespassing warrant against the adult who got on the bus, which means that he is no longer allowed on school property, school buses, or at school bus stops. He also said that the transportation arrangements for one student who used to ride the bus have been changed, and that the bus no longer stops at that student s house.

As another election day draws near, I feel obligated, as have many others, to put in my two cents worth. I think that the public needs to be made aware of problems in Sheriff John Henry Woodward’s department that never get aired. For example:
• Why is there a deputy who uses a county car for personal use — purchasing materials for use in his orchard? This is a vehicle paid for, fueled, and insured by county tax dollars. This is the same vehicle used by the same deputy to purchase groceries in Front Royal.
• Why is the sheriff not personally involved with the DARE program as he faithfully promised during the last election? He has been less than supportive of the only officer who currently runs the program.
• Will the sheriff encourage his employees to sign a letter of support to be published in the newspaper as he has in the past? Is the public aware that this is a condition of employment? When my wife worked as a dispatcher, she was told to sign or start looking for another job.
• If the incumbent sheriff is returned to office, will he and his staff harass his opponent at his residence by driving by, after the votes were tallied, with flashing lights and sirens as was done four years ago?
These are judgment questions and issues of conduct. If there are reasonable explanations, I look forward to hearing them. In any case, I feel that through the election of Gary Settle, we can and will look forward to a better tomorrow.
