The basic Command-Trac part-time 4-wheel drive system has been dropped, and the Quadra-Trac full-time system has a new viscous coupling center differential, to vary the torque between the front and rear wheels.
There will not be a 1996 model Wrangler. Jeep will sell the 1995 model through ’96, and toward the end of the year, a new ’97 Wrangler will be introduced.
Also leaving the scene is the Eagle Summit wagon, built by Mitsubishi and imported by Chrysler. The ’96 Summit sedan will continue to be sold.
The ’96 Eagle Talon, another Mitsubishi-inspired sporty car built in the U.S., will get side impact door beams this year. The Talon is still one of only a few sports cars (especially in its price range) that can be ordered with all-wheel drive.
The upscale ’96 Eagle Vision TSi can be ordered with “Autostick,” a 4speed automatic transaxle that can be shifted like a manual transmission.
