He also agreed to consider wooden decks and wooden guard rails for future bridge repairs (the next scheduled for the year 2002) on Old Hollow Road, and will entertain Roads Coalition suggestions such as those on slope stabilization and protection of rare species of flora in the area.
He noted that considerations and concerns from the community can be inserted into the design process if received one year prior to planned construction. The Old Hollow survey will be used by the Coalition to develop a road plan that reflects resident wishes and needs, and that should influence VDOT plans.
A second Roads Coalition group was established through the efforts of Mark Malik, Dick McNear and Brenda VanNess. This Gid Brown Hollow group met with Doug Bywaters of VDOT to discuss their road improvement priority, the planting of 100 trees. The group wanted VDOT’s approval for the placement of the trees, and received it at the meeting. The trees were planted - last Saturday and Wednesday.
