Debate, and only their second tournament.
In their first tournament back in February, they finished 12th out of 21 teams. Blubaugh finished ninth in speaker points while Gillis finished 11th out of 42 students.
Blubaugh also competed in the state Forensics tournament on March 27 and placed fifth in Foreign Extemporaneous Speaking. He went up against 11 other students from a total of four regions. Blubaugh was given a subject and had to develop an eight minute speech.
Jon Heddleston, an English teacher and the Forensics coach at the high school, said that debate “goes right to the core of the issues. It’s political, sociological, philosophical.” Forensics, on the other hand “is pretty, flawless, more dramatic.”
