Saluter has etched his name in the record books as the world’s best timber horse, as shown on halter plate above. Like Saluter, most timber runners begin their steeplechasing careers racing over hurdles, shown at right. The plastic and foam fence is soft and meant to be brushed through, making hurdle races faster. Horses that don’t like to ‘brush’ their fences often go on to race well over timber, or they can try the new ‘steeplethon’ style course, like below, that includes a variety of manmade and natural obstacles.
