On Feb. 21 over 30 young people gathered together at the Washington fire hall to rally their beliefs about abstinence before marriage.
The True Love Waits program was launched in April 1993, to urge teens to stay sexually abstinent until legally married. The campaign has gone international and hundreds of thousands have pledged to keep their promise by signing commitment cards each year.
Each year groups send cards to be displayed nationally. Three years ago over 340,000 cards were strung on a display going through the roof of the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, Ga.
The cards will be displayed this year spanning the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, Calif, and then later join cards internationally to be displayed at a site close to the international date line.
The theme behind this year’s project was “crossing bridges with purity”.
“There is definitely growth in the True Love Waits program,” added minister and Fellowship of Christian Athletics sponsor, Jon Heddleston.
“Last year we only had 22 people sign commitment cards, and this year we had over 30.
