MOTHER
Children who have lost their mothers may feel as if the law of gravity no longer applies to them. The fact that their losses ! may render them so untethered is testimony to the important role that mothers play in their offsprings' lives. It begins with the miracle of birth and extends ] through the vast education process that is meant to suffuse each of us with a sense of love, meaning, and purpose in our lives. Mothers are, at once, great teachers, nurses, and High Priestesses all. In fact, there is an old Jewish proverb that holds: “God could not be everywhere, and therefore he made mothers.” Is it any wonder that we feel so bereft upon losing a person of such magnitude in our lives?
