Through the great foundation sire Lexington, the blood of Diomed can be found in virtually every stallion standing service today across the U.S.
Among thoroughbred racing greats produced on Virginia soil, so too do many horsemen call the Old Dominion home. Secretariat’s breeder and owner Penny Chenery is a native of Doswell. Claiborne Farm owner Seth Hancock and Stone Farm owner Arthur Hancock III, both now in Paris, Kentucky, were from Virginia stock — their father Arthur Boyd Hancock lived in Virginia until his wife inherited 1,300 acres in Bourbon County, Kentucky. That original farm is the nucleus of today’s Claiborne Farm which has stood at stud such venerable thoroughbred greats as Secretariat, Bold Ruler, Mr. Prospector, Danzig and others. Leading steeplechase sire Northern Baby stands service at nearby Stone Farm.
