From the West Coast, en route to an engagement in New York, “The Flying Pisanos” plan a stop in Washington to give a concert at The Theatre here on Saturday, May 8 at 8 p.m. This will be another in the series of highly successful jazz programs presented by The Theatre at Washington.
The name “The Flying Pisanos” was suggested to John and Jeanne Pisano by Herb Alpert, with whose Tyuana Brass John played guitar for Several years as founding member. John has played with some of music’s great names, including Frank Sinatra, Peggy Lee, Burt Bacharach, Sergio Mendez and Barbara Streisand. He is recognized as one of the world’s preeminent jazz guitarists.
Through his own records and pioneering work with Joe Pass, Chico Hamilton and Billy Bean, John Pisano has stood as inspiration to guitarists of all genres for more than 40 years. This appearance in the Washington, D.C. area will be a rare treat for all East Coast music lovers.
For the concert on May 8 John will play some jazz solos, and will be joined by his jazz vocalist wife, Jeanne. Jeanne is a singer/lyricist bom in Nebraska. Her mother was a musician who had her own dance band and Jeanne started singing and touring with the band at age ten. Since then, she has performed all over the world, from Europe to Hong Kong, Japan, and the Caribbean, as well as New York, Los Angeles and other major cities in this country.
Reviews of their CD, called appropriately enough, “The Flying Pisanos,” were spectacular, and their live concerts together have been equally acclaimed. A review in the Los Angeles Times noted “their way with classic standards and
