Amissville activities
slated for weekend
Come out to the annual United Methodist Women’s yard sale on Saturday, May 1 from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. The ladies will be offering bargains on a variety of household items, white elephant treasures, clothing and delicious baked goods. While you are browsing, you can enjoy a scrumptious luncheon. Later that afternoon, the Amissville Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company, Inc. will hold its annual auction beginning at 6 p.m. If you have items you would like to donate and need them picked up, please call Paul Poling at 9375205, J.B. Carter at 937-4218, Paul Payne at 937-4954 or Jack Atkins at 937-5282. All donations should be in good condition and appliances must work.
Historical Society
plans meeting
The Rappahannock Historical Society plans their spring quarterly meeting on Sunday, May 2 at 3 p.m. in the Jamieson Room at the Rappahannock Library. The speaker will be James Gannon, author and historian, whose subject will be one in which he has particular expertise, The War Between the States. He will center his talk on life in Rappahannock County during that difficult time, relating stories which he has been collecting for some years. The public is invited, as well as all society members. There will be an opportunity for questions and discussion and refreshments will be served.
