Van visits
county park

The world’s only Water Wizard and his one-of-a-kind Water Wizard Van appeared Sunday, April 18 at the county park outside Washington, bearing interactive demonstrations that helped the children attending — and their parents — understand Various water-related concepts and processes.
Hazel Zinn-Day of the Virginia Cooperative Extension 4-H Program was assisted by volunteers Marta Segarra, Ivan Ussach, Robyn Joiner, Charles DelDecchio, Sue Smoot, Jerry Ochs, and Hunt Harris in telling the kids about water quality factors, hydrologic processes and best management practices.
Many aspects of the use of water were demonstrated.
Water quality testing for pH and dissolved oxygen was demonstrated using LaMotte water test kits; best management practices were presented with the interactive Terrin Institute Enviroscape Model;. ; Groundwater processes were displayed using the National Project WET Groundwater Model; aquatic insects and their use as biological indicators was discussed; and puppet plays were presented that addressed various water-related issues.
The van is a unique mobile educational tool.
