Oelke wrote a book on the painted equine image published by Watson-Guptill. She is a of Monkton, Md. (also home to Virginia Gold Cup champions Jack Fisher and Saluter.)
Selected to produce this year’s official Virginia Gold Cup painting, Oelke created a head-on view of the 1998 classic, showing trainer-rider Jack Fisher punching the air as Saluter wins his fifth straight Cup. In the background is the recognizable Great Meadow stewards’ stand, record crowd and the other finishers.
