A Washington, D.C. actor and director brought a bit of off-broadway to Rappahannock last Sunday.
Under the sponsorship of the Rappahannock Association for the Arts and the Community, Bart Whiteman, founder of Source Theatre, led an afternoonlong theatrical workshop at the Gay Street Theater.
The participants ranged from high school kids whose only stage experience has come on the stage of RCHS to veterans of the Rappahannock Players, Don Bomberger, the driving force behind the acclaimed annual productions at the high school, and local playwrite Carla Eugster.
Whiteman put his 15 actors through strenuous paces. He divided them into groups of three, gave them the bare outline of a situation from a Shakespeare play and then sat back to watch what they developed from that outline. The scenarios ran from the takeover of giant automotive company to a murder committed by a mysterious snake woman with a shoe fetish.
