Last year Roy was sidelined with injuries following a fall from Man of Rythm in the snow at Casanova, and ‘Bird’ switched his talents to the ladies’ races.
Ridden by Hilary Thompson and Ready Snodgrass, ‘Bird’ seemed to appreciate carrying 145 pounds, 40 less than his usual assignment in the Seven Corners series. He reciprocated by winning at Warrenton, Middleburg, and Fairfax.
In 1983 ‘Bird’ will again concentrate on the ladies’ races, and while Man of Rythm recovers from injuries sustained in last year’s Gold Cup, Tennessee will sit out this season.
In summing up his best friend, Roy comments, “There might be better horses than ‘Bird’, but there will never be a greater horse.”
Cinzano
During the past two decades, Randy Rouse, MFH Fairfax Hunt, has had many excellent point-to-point horses, among them Twin Peaks, Buen Paisano, Quashed, Free Movement and Cousin Wes, who were responsible for his domination of the Seven Corners series for 10 of the past 16 years. But Randy’s current horse Cinzano is far and away his best race horse.
A big bay with immense, ground consuming strides, Cinzano is a native of Uruguay where he was a champion threeyear-old, the winner of nine races. At four Cinzano was purchased for $81,000 and imported into the U.S., along with the
