Racing attire, although colorful, differs somewhat dramatically from that worn in "the hunting field. Although many riders competing in the point-to - points, especially those in the hunter pace events and junior races, still choose to ride wearing standard hunting attire, most race riders have elected to don racing silks.
The reason for this developed as the point-to-points graduated from their old fashioned status to the more structured and sophisticatd races, with many of the owners also maintaining professional stables of steeplechase and race horses.Therefore, official racing colors are often worn. No two stables have the same colors, as each combination of color and design must be approved through a complex process by The Jockey Club, the organization which establishes the rules for thoroughbred racing.
