Are There Any Dangers to
Over-the-Counter
Foot Remedies?
There is no clear cut answer to this question. If moleskin pads are placed on a normal individual (a non-di abetic without overly sensitive skin) and it makes their feet more comfortable there is no harm. The only possible consequence can be masking of a minor problem until it becomes a major one. If, however, a diabetic patient uses a corn pad that has a caustic chemical and his diabetes is not under good medical control the results ultimately can be catastrophic. Infection, loss of limb, etc., is not entirely out of the question. Lastly, pads on any individual should not be left on for more than a few days at any time because the skin can build up a sensitivity to the pad.
