Commencing his point-topoint career in 1974, Boca Bird has been placed in training right after the first of each year, when he is vanned to Tommy Lee Jones’ farm near Warrenton. The ‘Bird’ often runs eight or nine times during the nine-week season.

“Once the season starts,” Tommy Lee says, “we don’t do much with him during the week. He seems to know when Saturdays arrive, his day to run.”
