Richmond—House and Senate budget conferees remained at odds early this week on whether to include money in the state budget to help Rappahannock County pay for renovations to its jail.
Sen. Edward E. Willey (D-Richmond), chairman of the Senate Finance Committee and ranking ember of the Senate budget conferees, said Tuesday he would oppose efforts to include money for Rappahannock, for a project in the City of Lynchburg and for a regional jail to serve Culpeper and Madison counties.
“We’re not ging to put in any capital outlay money in this session,” said Willey. The Senate budget includes $183,000 for a jail project in Glouchester County, Willey noted, but that is because it is already under construction.
