Middleburg
Susan went on to describe another first. “Middleburg is another sentimental favorite of mine. It was my first win. There I learned patience at speed. Having the flu may have helped. I sat very quietly, content to let the others set the pace. I really played that one by ear...and a stuffed up head. But it sure feels good when you do it right.”
Old Dominion
By the time the 1982 Old Dominion Point-to-Point rolled around, Susan was becoming a seasoned race rider, developing strategy, learning the courses, seeking new challenges.
“The Old Dominion course is similar to Warrenton.. .up, down, up, down, round and round. But it’s shorter, run a little faster, with the fences in clusters, and long stretches to run in between groups of fences to jump.
