This unique sport can be documented as far as back as 1752 in Ireland. It had its origins in the United States with the first recorded event in 1885, the running of the Genesee Valley (New York) Hunt Point-to-Point.

In years past only those directly concerned with the participants could be found standing on yonder hillside cheering their favorite on. Today thousands of spectators turn out religiously each spring for what has become a series of annual social events in this part of the country.
