The caliber of the horses competing in both of these events is high, and whether it be simply two foxhunters challenging each other to a match, or the professionals who earn their livelihood in the raising and training and running of horses, horse racing is still a sport. It may also be an industry, but as Frances Rowe,. well known horsewoman, so succinctly phrased it recently, “This is a sporting industry.”
A new race has been added to the card of the Middleburg meet, the Foxhunters Bowl, which will be an unsanctioned race, strictly for foxhunters who have hunted fairly throughout the season, and have won at least, one other race during the point-to-point season. The purse will be donated to the hunt which is represented by the winner, with a trophy going to both the owner of the winner, and the represented hunt.
