On the House side, Del. Richard M. Bagley (DHampton), chairman of the Appropriations Committee and the chief budget conferee for the House, said he would work to keep in the House budget the $81,500 in state reimbursement for Rappahannock’s jail improvements.
“I think both houses will certainly try to prevail” in conference, said Bagley.
The House bill includes $100,000 for construction of the Glouchester County jail, $81,500 for Rappahannock’s, $200,000 for Madison and Culpeper’s joint project and $100,000 for Lynchburg’s jail.
Bagley said that the Appropriations Committee believes all four projects are needed and that state money is available to help pay for them. “We don’t put in an unbalanced budget,” he said.
