Arch’s wife at the time, and leading lady rider in Virginia in the ’60s, rode Lenoso to several wins. Kassie also hunted the timber horse, commenting, “He was a perfect lady’s hunter. He went in a rubber snaffle.”
Arch shared Lenoso’s popularity. A native of Pennsylvania, he foxhunted there as a child, but then got away from horses for about 15 years. When his career with United brought him to Virginia, Arch took up riding and hunting once more, in time becoming Joint MFH of the Middleburg Hunt,and then going on to point-to-point racing in the early 1960’s. Lenoso was his third horse, but Arch states that Artist’s Haven, who raced in the mid-1970’s, was his most talented horse.
