run in the Gold Cup that year, Lenoso stepped in a hole and bowed a tendon. That put him out of action for the entire 1965 season, but he returned in 1966 to win his second of three legs on the Middleburg Bowl. Lenoso’s final win in this important pointto-point came in 1968, when he became the first three-time winner of the Bowl.
An extremely bold jumper, Lenoso was a real crowd pleaser, standing far back at many of his fences. He often competed at a disadvantage as well, for Arch is a big man and it was a constant struggle for him to make weight. It was not unusual for Arch to ride 10 or 15 pounds in excess of the 185 pounds assigned in the owner/rider series.
