The initial phase of construction at the Marion duPont Scott center will provide patient housing for 30 horses (with a projected stall capacity of 100 expected upon completion of the next phase) and clinical facilities for examinations and special procedures, soft tissue and orthopedic surgery, intensive care, radiology, physical therapy and pathology. In addition to the reception and administrative area, there will be a pharmacy, seminar rooms and a library.
When complete, the facility will have a resident staff and faculty of approximately 30, and will be linked by computer to the teaching hospital on the campus in Blacksburg. Specialists in Blacksburg and the University of Maryland will be on hand for diagnostic and therapeutic procedures there.
