At the hunt meets there are handicap races where weights are assigned to horses by the racing secretary according to past performances.
Claiming races are also run at the hunt meets, but not at pointto-points. In these races horses run “for a tag” as it is calledmeaning the price at which they may be purchased or “claimed” by another owner who is racing a horse at the same meeting.
