The two sports also offer an opportunity for elegance, an observance of the amenities, correctness, and manners, in an age where these qualities have been all but forgotten. In the fall, and on into the winter, when one is driving along a road in hunting country, a field of foxhunters, following an elegantly dressed huntsman, and his handsome pack of hounds, hot on the scent of a fox, may cross his path, and he will stop and look and enjoy. Perhaps he will take a step back in time, refreshing himself from the hectic pace of contemporary living, enjoying the colorful sight of scarlet coats, polished leather, and gleaming fit horses. Perhaps later on, he too,will join the many thousands of spectators who gather each spring to cheer their favorite hunters on at the annual point-to-point races.
