The organizers of the Middleburg Spring Race Meet have announced that there will be a full program not only of racing, but other activities as well which are planned to provide entertainment throughout the day for the whole family. The course at Middleburg is excellent from the spectators’ point of view, with a good vantage point for practically every fence, and excellent reserved parking. General admission seats will be available in the formerly restricted area of the grandstand.
The Virginia Gold Cup, which this year will be run on May 7, is more than just a horse race. The Gold Cup is a tradition. Everything in and around Warrenton, comes if not to a screeching halt then to a slow slide on that day in May. The hillsides overlooking the course begin to fill up early, with picnickers who come great distances, just to say they have been to the Gold Cup. It’s a special place to be, Virginia during the spring racing season. One doesn’t have to know a whole lot about horses to revel in the beauty of these great ones sailing over fence after fence.
